Gay pride??????????? Not being gay myself, I have to put this question forward. One of two things can be true. If you are gay, you eithier are because you were born that way, or because you chose to be. Most will say they were born that way, which means it was not a cognisant choice. If this is true, how can you take pride in being gay? You had no choice. Thats like saying I'm proud to be white. Really? You had no say in it, why would you take pride in that which you cannot control? Pride can be taken in personal choices and achievements, but not in things you have no control over. So if you didn't choose to be gay, yet take pride in it, how are no any better than some white prider? If you did choose to be gay, how can you defend your choice from attacks from christian fundementalists? I'm not gay, not anti gay, not christian, not a white prider. Just a question. | For me gay pride is an effort to show others they have nothing to fear. Imagine growing up being told that you were bad, sinful, being made fun of, disparaged all the time for being who you are, and the worst part of it all is having it CONDONED by those who are supposed to be role models. You know, the ones you're supposed to emulate.
Yes I'm a proud gay man, but first and foremost I'm a law abiding human being, I have feelings like anyone else, and for me gay pride is a way to show others that they don't have to fall for the trap of the past, the one that needs an enemy in order to validate itself. For me gay pride is just another way of demonstrating that we are all here and we all have to get along for the betterment of society as a whole.
Thank you for your time. | Gay pride? what makes you so proud of being gay?
you dont see people running around screaming straight pride.
i think gay people just want attention, thats it | And what exactly are you trying to get out of asking this question.....attention?
I am proud of WHO I am, which happens to include being a lesbian, not JUST the fact that I am a lesbian. I have "pride" in being gay, because I want people like you to know that I, like it or not, am not going to change or go away.....and I am comfortable in my skin. Maybe you should learn to take a little more pride in who you are : ) | Gay Pride? Ok gay people, you guys claim you want to just live a "normal" lifestyle. Well then, why do you feel the need to have "Gay Pride" festivals and dress with rainbows and bright colors and you feel the need to tell everyone you're gay?
Now I know, not all of you do that, but I know some of you do. I've seen it.
So if I had me a "Straight Pride" festival, would you be mad at us? Say that we are taking away the only thing that's yours? | I'm not actually gay (that I have realized yet), but your question is a good one, so I thought I'd throw in my two cents.
Doesn't it seem like everyone wants their own parade, to flaunt the things they want others to be more tolerant of?
I just had this conversation the other day, after seeing a three hundred pound black woman at a convenience store. She had four guyren with her, and was there buying a carton of cigarettes, while she yelled at her guys to shut up about the candy they wanted because, "they should know there isn't money for that".
Suppose I had said something about unemployment rates, or food stamps, or the gang violence in that particular part of town, or KFC. She would have been up in my face in 0.2 seconds flat.
Then consider that there's a ***** College Fund set up, and my guys can't benefit from it, just for being white. That's fine. But what if I established a Caucasion College Fund? I'd probably have Jesse Jackson calling me to ask about my intentions.
It doesn't matter what you question from the minorities, they will always find a way to turn it on you. And as long as society continues empathizing with all the cry babies who need more love and respect, our own voices become less and less heard.
So, tell the rainbow warriors that they can do whatever they want, but that they are not special. If they want a parade to show off their limp wrists, fine. We should have a parade to celebrate procreation and love, the way God intended. | How do gay pride parades affect your impression of homosexuals? Overall, do gay pride parades give you a positive impression of homosexuals, a negative impression, or do they have little or no effect at all?
When you respond, please say if you are gay, straight, or bisexual. Thanks. | i am straight but as with each & every person who has ever thought about sex i have thought of being gay or bi.. i just decided that wasn't my path.. anyone who denies this is lying as it is factually impossible to NOt think of it at some point else you cannot make a choice either way..
with that said, the parades give me negative impression of gay society as they are often filled with freaks who are not freaks in my opinion because of sexuality but because of actions & manner of dress... i generally feel many of the freaks in these parades are what hurt gay rights and promote peoples feeling of it being unholy lifestyle or unatural lifestyle... i know this cannot be truth since homosexual behavior happens throughout nature as any farmer can tell you and catholic priests seem to have proven by constant and thurough action that it must not be unholy either...
still the parades are not a good thing in my opinion, but only because of the way they are done.. make it more like a labor day parade instead of a mardi gras parade.. | What does gay pride have to do with cross-dressing? I was looking at photos from the gay pride parade in Atlanta from the weekend, and there were some pictures of men dressed as women.
What does being a transvestite have to do with gay pride? Shouldn't that be a whole different parade? | I believe it wasn't a gay pride parade; I believe it was a LGBT pride parade. Drag queens, transvestites, transsexuals, etc. are all part of the LGBT community, even though most transvestites and transsexuals are not lesbian, gay, or bisexual.
If you're wondering why we're the LGBT community rather than just the gay community... ask that in another question :) | How did rainbows become a symbol of gay pride? I am NOT prejudice or anything, but I was just wondering how rainbows became the new symbol of gay pride. I've also heard that Dolphins are another symbol. Does anyone know how it became a symbol? | I found this...i'm not sure what parts are true though,
The design may have been influenced by flags with multicolored stripes used by various left-wing causes and organizations in the San Francisco area in the 1960s. The Rainbow Flag originally had eight stripes (from top to bottom):
hot pink for sex,
red for life,
orange for healing,
yellow for sun,
green for serenity with nature,
turquoise for art,
indigo for harmony, and
violet for spirit.
Use of the rainbow flag by the gay community began in 1978 when it first appeared in the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade. Borrowing symbolism from the hippie movement and black civil rights groups, San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker designed the rainbow flag in response to a need for a symbol that could be used year after year. Baker and thirty volunteers hand-stitched and hand-dyed two huge prototype flags for the parade. The flags had eight stripes, each color representing a component of the community. | How can someone celebrate gay pride without feeding into gay sterotypes? It just seems like the gay pride parades are so stereotypical. | What do you define as 'stereotype'?
My ex guitarist was les but she didn't wave it around for all to see. Hell, her wearing a wristband to the 'pride' event we were at was the only time her sexuality was somehow acknowledged on her person. | How can i show my gay pride on facebook for National Coming out Day? Well Im gay and I have recently come out and Im wondering how can i show my gay pride. I have been thinking to change my profile picture to a pink triangle since Im a gay guy but is there another way i can. Also i know its a little early to think about this as its on the 11th of october but i just want to know. | | change your icon. | What are some ideas for crazy hair/gay pride day tomorrow? For the last day of school tomorrow everyone is doing crazy hair & clothes & gay pride.
I have my outfit but i need my hair/gay pride.
Any help?
No rude comments please. | they have rainbow clip in extensions at hot topic...

www.claires.com/catalog.asp?rcid=… | Why not have pride marches for other minorities as well as gay people? Gay pride marches are great, but we could also have marches for other minorities too, like fat people, people with red hair (ginger pride) and people with spina bifta. What do you think?
GO! | | Lol! I like this question. |
